Thinking outside of the box…

Recently I shared an interesting and fresh take on diagnosis, relating to dyslexia and other specific leaning differences (see image below).

Views will of course vary but here’s some food for thought from my own experience…

Personally, I hate the term ‘label’! We shouldn’t label anyone about anything, like a can of baked beans!

However, a diagnosis is much more than that. It puts a name to something, which can be very positive mentally. We name plenty of other things in life to help us identify and understand them!

And a diagnosis brings with it understanding, support, specific knowledge, reasonable adjustments (in the classroom, workplace, University, etc.), bespoke recommendations, as well as recognition and rights in law. A diagnosis helps to explain a pat of who someone is and has always been.

I don’t believe we should be hiding and fearing these things but openly celebrating them - for the awesome strengths and abilities that they bring and the wonderful people that live with the very real difficulties every day in a society that is designed for neurotypical brains!
